Special schools are being operated by the department for providing education to the persons with disabilities:-

  • A-Operation of Bachpan Day Care Centres for primary education
  • B-Operation of the schools according to the category of disability, Prayas schools (Orthopaedic disability), Mamta schools (for Mentally retarded students), Sanket schools (for dumb and deaf students) and Sparsh schools (for visually impaired students)
  • C-Intermediate colleges (from Class – 6 to 12) are being established for integrated education (for disabled and normal students)
  • D-Operation of Dr. Shakuntala Mishra National Rehabilitation University for higher education.

1-Sanket (State Deaf and Dumb School) Lucknow, Agra, Bareilly, Farrukhabad, Gorakhpur:

Total 05 Sanket State Dumb and Deaf Schools are being operated under the department in districts Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Agra, Bareilly and Farrukhabad. Out of these, the schools being operated at Bareilly, Farrukhabad and Lucknow are Junior High School while schools being operated at district Agra and Gorakhpur are of High School level. In these schools, students are provided vocational training along with free education with the help of hearing aid. Boarding students of these schools are provided with a livelihood amount of Rs. 2000/- per month. From this amount, food, breakfast, clothing, bedding, medicines and other routine things are purchased for the students by a purchasing committee constituted as per requirements of students/head of institute/nominated members . For non-boarding students, free transportation through bus/jeep is provided from their homes to school and back. Approved students capacity in these schools is as under :-

Sparsh ( Government School for Visually Impaired girls/ boys) Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Banda, Saharanpur and Meerut

Total 07 Sparsh: Government Schools for Visually Impaired students are being operated by the department in the district Saharanpur, Banda, Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Meerut. Out of these the school being operated in Saharanpur is of High School level and schools being operated in other districts are of Intermediate level. In these schools free education is provided to the students through Brail pattern. To the boarding students of these schools, a monthly stipend of Rs. 2000/- is provided for their livelihood. From this amount, food, breakfast, clothing, bedding, medicines and other routine things are purchased for the students by a purchasing committee constituted as per requirements of students/head of institute/nominated members . For non-boarding students, free transportation through bus is provided from their homes to school and back. Approved students capacity in these schools is as under:-

Mamta (State School for Mentally Challenged boys/girls) Lucknow and Prayagraj:-

In these schools, students are provided free education through psychological pattern. Vocational training is also provided to the boarding students with the objective to keep them physically fit. To the boarding students of these schools, a monthly stipend of Rs. 2000/- is provided for their livelihood. From this amount, food, breakfast, clothing, bedding, medicines and other routine things are purchased for the students by a purchasing committee constituted as per requirements of students/head of institute/nominated members. Total-02 Prayas Government Schools for Physically Challenged Boys are being operated in Lucknow and Pratapgarh districts. In these schools, free education of High School level is provided to physically disabled students. To the boarding students of these schools, a monthly stipend of Rs. 2000/- is provided for their livelihood. From this amount, food, breakfast, clothing, bedding, medicines and other routine things are purchased for the students by a purchasing committee constituted as per requirements of students/head of institute/nominated members. Operation of Hostels for Visually Impaired Boys/Girls who are receiving higher education in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Allahabad and Meerut: -

Visually impaired students after completing intermediate in their respective subjects have to face various difficulties while acquiring higher education, keeping this in mind for providing them residential facility while acquiring higher education one hostel each in Lucknow/ Gorakhpur and one hostel each in Allahabad/ Meerut for boys total six hostels has been established. In each hostel approved capacity of students is 200.

Shelter House cum Training Centre for shelter less mentally retarded persons Bareilly, Gorakhpur and Meerut:-

For the shelter less mentally retarded persons of the state one shelter house cum training centre for females in Bareilly and one shelter house cum training centre for males in each Gorakhpur and Meerut has been established. Residential capacity of these centres is 50. In these centres, mentally retarded persons after their entry are also given professional training along with shelter such that by making them self-sufficient the work of including them into the mainstream society is being done.

Operation of Amravati Purushottam Multi-purpose Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Varanasi:-

Amravati Purushottam Multi-purpose Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is being operated in Varanasi district for disabled persons of all categories. In this institute along with residential facility, training is also providing to mentally retarded persons in professional trades such that the work of making them self-sufficient is being done.

Mental Development Centre, Gorakhpur:-

For rehabilitation of persons affected by Japanese Encephalitis in Gorakhpur Circle, a Mental Development Centre is being operated in the health building of B.R.D medical College. In this Mental Development Centre, rehabilitation services and facilities are provided to the disabled persons affected by Japanese Encephalitis through IQ Assessment, Occupational Therapy Unit, Physiotherapy Unit, Audiology Unit, Professional Training Unit, Counselling and Social Educational Unit.

Establishment and operation of Bachpan Day Care:-

Bachpan Day Care centres are being operated in Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi (each with capacity of 60 children), Agra, Saharanpur, Jhansi, Bareilly, Gautam Budh Nagar (each for 30 children) from the funds received through "Education for All" campaign. Till year 2008-09 these centres were operated under "Education for All" campaign. After that from year 2009-10 onwards this scheme was decided to be operated by Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department through departmental budget. Bachpan Day Care Centre has an arrangement of Coordinator and Special teachers on honorarium and in addition to this services of 1 Physiotherapist, Psycho counsellor, Speech trainer/Specialist at each centres on the basis of per visit and services of attendant, nanny, cleaning staff and watchmen on the basis of honorarium is been taken for Bachpan Day Care. In these centres disabled children from age 03 to 07 years are given education/ training along with free coming and going facility and these children are also given training for obtaining education in general schools. Proceedings are being done for opening new Bachpan Day Care Centre in ten circle headquarters in districts viz. Aligarh, Chitrakoot, Moradabad, Mirzapur, Basti, Azamgarh, Kanpur City, Ayodhya, Gonda and Gorakhpur.

Establishment of Consolidated Schools:-

  • Total 07 classes are being operated for providing education to the students belonging to different categories of disabilities (Visual Impairment, Hearing Impairment and Bone Disability) along with normal students simultaneously under one roof through consolidated Special Secondary School from class 6th to 12th.
  • Providing education according to Model School System along with latest technical system for providing barrier less environment to persons with disabilities in consolidated schools.
  • Presently, consolidated schools are under-construction in following districts: Auraiya, Kannauj, Allahabad, Lucknow, Azamgarh, Ballia, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Etah, Mirzapur, Maharajganj and Pratapgarh.
